Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence were vaccinated alongside U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, with the Vice President later insisting that he “didn’t feel a thing” while his shot was administered. On the other side of the pond, 81-year-old acting legend Sir Ian McKellen declared that he felt “euphoric” after he became one of the first Brits to get vaccinated and that he would “have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.” Martha Stewart and Dolly Parton have also been vaccinated. The vaccines are coming just in time, as more than 76,000,000 people have contracted the coronavirus worldwide as of this writing. A sliver of those cases include some of the world’s best-known stars, including Oscar winner Tom Hanks, who shocked the world at the start of the pandemic back in March when he and wife Rita Wilson went public with their COVID diagnosis. Since then, the virus has affected such celebs as President and First Lady Donald and Melania Trump, future King of England Prince Charles and, more recently, talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, who shared her diagnosis on Twitter on Dec. 10: COVID has also claimed the lives of several beloved performers, including Broadway star Nick Cordero, who passed away in July at the age of 41 after spending three months clinging to life while battling coronavirus in an L.A. hospital. Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots, garnered love and support from around the globe with her loving updates about her husband’s battle with the virus on social media. On July 5, she announced his passing when she wrote on Instagram, “God has another angel in heaven now. My darling husband passed away this morning. He was surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth. I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him. Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone’s friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk. He was an incredible actor and musician. He loved his family and loved being a father and husband. Elvis and I will miss him in everything we do, everyday.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, coronavirus is “thought to spread mainly from person-to-person” with symptoms ranging from fever and cough to shortness of breath.
