The show, created by Dan Fogelman, began airing in 2016 and finished off its emotional run with the recent sixth season. The final episode, “Us,” aired on May 24.  Fans were convinced that the series would get a few nominations, especially since critics loved the show’s final outing, with Season 6 standing at a gold 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but unfortunately, the show only received a single nomination, with the Emmy members glossing over Mandy Moore’s performance entirely. Naturally, Moore and her on-screen daughter, Chrissy Metz, took to social media shortly after to share their thoughts. Moore, who many expected would score a nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Rebecca Pearson in various timelines, wrote in an Instagram Story, via Variety, “Do I wish our show was recognized in what I think was [its] finest hour? Sure. And Dan Fogelman’s brilliant writing for 6 seasons (hello THE TRAIN)? Ken Olin’s impeccable direction? Our insanely, wildly talented cast and crew? Yah….”  Despite the disappointment, Moore ended her statement with a note about the impact the show had on the audience: “But nothing can take away what our show meant to SO MANY (us included). That’s an incredible legacy to be a part of. I will be grateful forever.” Metz, who played Kate Pearson on the NBC drama, had similar feelings. She wrote in an Instagram Story that has since expired: “When there are people who are so innately, incredibly gifted and talented who write a show — Dan Fogelman — and who act and star in a show — Mandy Moore — that don’t get recognized for their beautiful work? And the way that they have changed people’s lives and hearts and minds, and for the connective tissue between other human beings, and they don’t get recognized for it? I understand it’s not everything, honey, but it’s something.” The only 2022 Emmy nomination This Is Us received is for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song “The Forever Now.” The song is co-written by the show’s composer, Siddhartha Khosla, and Moore’s husband, Taylor Goldsmith. Moore lent her vocals to the track and performed it as Rebecca during one of the final episodes celebrating Kate’s wedding to Phillip.  Although she didn’t get a nomination, Moore still celebrated and supported both Khosla and Goldsmith with another story on Instagram, writing, “So unendingly proud of Siddhartha Khosla and Taylor Goldsmith for getting an Emmy nom for their song ‘Forever Now’ on our final season.” Fogelman, the creator of This Is Us, who wrote many episodes of the NBC show, also shared a short reaction to the Emmy nominations on Twitter, stating, “The Emmy noms didn’t break for #ThisIsUs today - if you’re happy when they go your way, you’ve got to take it on the chin when they don’t.” Still, he went on to praise Khosla, his “college roomie,” and Taylor for their nomination.
