“[Dollface] was a show that was impacted by COVID, it was one of the top shows we launched in [2019] and I’m excited to have it come back for season 2,” Craig Erwich, President of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals, told Deadline in May 2021. Kat Dennings reprises her role as Jules, the protagonist who finds herself struggling to connect with women after her five-year relationship ends in sudden heartbreak. She teased the new season with an Instagram post after filming wrapped in October 2021, joking, “I hope you guys love Season 2 as much as I suspect you might, and if you don’t, it’s only like 75 percent my fault.” Since Season 1 started with a literal cat lady driving a bus, it’s safe to say fans are in for quite the ride for Season 2. Is there a trailer for Dollface Season 2?
Yes! The first trailer of the second season arrived on Jan. 11 and quickly proved just how much fans are clamoring for more, racking up nearly a million views over the course of its first day on YouTube. The two-and-a-half-minute preview opens with Jules’ BFF Madison (Brenda Song) asking her, “Do you know how we’re nowhere near the places where we thought we’d be in our lives?” There’s then an acknowledgement of the COVID-19 pandemic as Madison adds, “We spent the last part of our official youth stuck inside, just here, watering houseplants.” (It seems as if Season 2 will then take place in a fictional post-COVID world.) The trailer also features the return of love interest Wes (Matthew Gray Gubler) as well as The Cat Lady (Beth Grant) as Jules and her friends continue to grapple with figuring out what they really want in life. Career-wise, Stella (Shay Mitchell) decides to open up a bar just for women, while Celeste (Malin Akerman) offers to mentor Jules at work. Before that, in November 2021, Hulu dropped a six-second video announcing the new season. The quick clip sees Jules, Stella, Madison and Izzy—the fabulous foursome at the center of the series—dressed for what appears to be a Gatsby-themed party. The glamorous scene is followed by a clip of Stella lounging by the pool and a blink-and-you-might-miss-it shot of Jules fighting over a spraying champagne bottle.
When did filming on Dollface Season 2 begin?
Like many pandemic-era TV shows, Dollface experienced delays in filming due to COVID-19. Filming reportedly finally got underway in July 2021 and wrapped in October. Brenda Song (who plays Madison Maxwell) celebrated the end of production at the time by sharing an Instagram photo of her and her castmates. She captioned the sweet post in part, “I truly don’t know what I would have done without you guys… I love you guys an embarrassing amount. You all are stuck with me for forever.”

Kat Dennings as Jules Wiley
Would it really be Dollface without “Dollface” herself? Dennings will once again play protagonist Jules, a millennial working in a The Wing-esque space called Woöm. “Don’t we all relate to the sad emo character?!" the Two Broke Girls star said of her Hulu role during a 2019 interview with InStyle. “I am attracted to roles I feel like I can bring a real aspect to, you know, like I can actually draw from something. I’ve had a storied love life and a somewhat interesting upbringing, so I feel like I relate to those characters.”
Brenda Song as Madison Maxwell
Song, who rose to fame at a young age thanks to an iconic role on Disney’s Sweet Life of Zack and Cody, returns as publicist Madison Maxwell. She previously called the character a “dream role,” telling Teen Vogue in 2019, “I’ve always been a part of male-driven projects and it was amazing [to be] literally going to work every day and hanging out with my girlfriends.”
Shay Mitchell as Stella Cole
While Mitchell’s role as Stella Cole in Dollface bears some undeniable similarities to her famed role as Peach in Netflix’s You (all that luxury label clothing, for one), her bubbly character—and the show as a whole—is certainly more lighthearted. “I was excited because it was a comedy role and it was a lot more lighthearted [than YOU],” she previously told Entertainment Weekly, adding that she knew she was lucky to work on a show with an all-female cast and showrunner.
Esther Povitsky as Izzy Levine
Jules’ co-worker Izzy, played by Povitsky, will be back in office for Season 2. It seems there are even more hilarious plotlines in store for Izzy this time around, as Povitsky toldOn The Red Carpet in 2020: “Before the pandemic I stopped by the writers’ room and they pitched me some of the stories for my character and they’re the funniest things I’ve ever heard.” In addition to the four leading ladies, the new Dollface episodes will feature new faces, too. It seems love will be in the air for Season 2; Jayson Blair will join the cast as Liam, a love interest for Izzy, and comedian Lilly Singh will star as Liv, a bartender that strikes up both a business and romantic relationship with Stella. Luke Cook will also reportedly appear in an undisclosed recurring guest role, while Owen Thiele will star as a Woöm worker who becomes the girls’ cool new confidante.
Malin Akerman as Celeste
The boss is back! Akerman, whose previous roles include rom-coms like The Proposal and 27 Dresses, will once again star at Jules’ boss and the Gwyneth Paltrow-like CEO of wellness company Woom.
Beth Grant as The Cat Lady
The Cat Lady, an anthropomorphic cat who offers guidance to Jules, will “fur” sure be back for Season 2. While the fabulous feline’s previous personas include a bus driver and a game show host, she appears to take on the role of a flight attendant in the Season 2 trailer. “Every week, I’m a different character,” Grant previously told her alma mater, East Carolina University, of playing the computer-animated cat. “I’m still a cat spirit guide, but I take on different personas every week.”
Matthew Gray Gubler as Wes
Gubler, best known for playing Spencer Reid in the much more sinister series Criminal Minds, will reprise his role as a veterinarian named Wes, Jules’ post-breakup love interest. He won’t be her only potential romantic prospect in the show’s sophomore season, however, as the trailer also sees her attempting to compose a text to a new guy named Fender.
How did Season 1 of Dollface end?
The first season of Dollface culminated in the ultimate test for Jules: Her ex Jeremy (played by Connor Hines) asking to get back together. She ends up turning him down, before revealing in the middle of a wedding that Colin—her boss’ husband, who is simultaneously dating Madison—is cheating. Meanwhile, Stella announces that she got into business school and is planning to move to Philadelphia. The season ends with another girl power scene, as Jules gathers with her friends to drive back to California together.
Did Jules and Jeremy get back together in Dollface?
While Jules decided not to reunite with Jeremy in Season 1, it remains to be seen whether her feelings for him will really be over in Season 2.
Are there any Dollface Season 2 spoilers?
While Hulu has been tight-lipped about what’s next for the leading ladies, according to the synopsis, this season will see Jules and her friends navigate “work, love and a deeper relationship with each of themselves.” With romantic interests for Izzy and Stella joining the cast, it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a lot of the love side in their plotlines this time around. Having filmed amid COVID-19, this season will take place in a post-pandemic world, with the series’ central 20-somethings on the verge of turning the big 3-0. In addition to the new characters, there’s also a new showrunner behind their stories for the season: Michelle Nadar, who also served as the showrunner and executive producer of Dennings’ Two Broke Girls. Nadar told Deadlinein June, “I only run shows that Kat Dennings stars in… She is incredible. And [series creator Jordan Weiss] has an amazing and distinct voice. She created a really unique world with such a fresh perspective, and I feel lucky to get to write for all these women. And an imaginary Cat Lady.”
