The prequel series, based on the work of J. R. R. Tolkien, is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, long before the events of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.  The first trailer reveals the epic story that will unfold in the new series, with a young Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, at the center of it all.  The show will also feature younger versions of other familiar Lord of the Rings characters, like Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and High King Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker), who has a small role in the original trilogy, though there are likely to be others that pop up here and there.  In the first trailer, Elrond pushes Galadriel to rest, saying, “You have fought long enough, Galadriel. Put up your sword.” But she foresees great darkness on the horizon, telling him, “You have not seen what I have seen.”  The trailer then shows Gil-galad also warning Elrond of great destruction to come, noting, “Darkness will march over the face of the earth. It will be the end not just of our people, but all peoples.” The long first trailer shows lush landscapes and intense battles, adding to the already-intense hype over The Rings of Power.  According to a statement from showrunners J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay, via Variety, “The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring –but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.” Based on this description and the trailer, the series is sure to be an action-packed, rich story with great characters, new and old, further expanding the already huge Lord of the Rings franchise.  Next, 20 Hobbit-Worthy Recipes For a Lord of the Rings-Themed Dinner Party
