Bialik has been tapped to serve as guest host for the syndicated series for three weeks beginning Monday, Sept. 20, week two of season 38. Richards had already filmed episodes for Sept. 13-17 before he stepped down as host on Friday. After two weeks of scandal involving lawsuits during his tenure at The Price Is Right and then a resurfaced podcast called The Randumb Show in which he made offensive comments about women and Jews, Richards announced that he would step down as permanent host. In the internal memo sent to staff, Richards apologized for his past remarks. “As I mentioned last week, I was deeply honored to be asked to host the syndicated show and was thrilled by the opportunity to expand my role,” Richards wrote. “However, over the last several days it has become clear that moving forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show. As such, I will be stepping down as host effective immediately.” Bialik, who got her first acting job at 12, is best known for playing neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory and starred in the title role in Blossom. The mother of two sons, she also has a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA. Bialik seems like an excellent match for the long running beloved show. The day she was announced as one of the show’s hosts she made a touching video that she posted on Twitter from a bed. A grandchild of immigrants and a second generation American, Bialik talked about how meaningful it was to be such an integral part of the show. “My mother’s parents in particular never really had a command of the English language” she said. “It’s a tremendously humbling, bizarre and surreal experience.” Jeopardy! plans to resume its revolving door of guest hosts while it searches for a permanent replacement for longtime host Alex Trebek who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 2020.
