Now, as the princess turns 6, the newest snap of Charlotte proves that her likeness to the queen is only getting stronger! In it, Charlotte wears a pretty floral dress with pink buttons, and her hair is getting super long. The photo was released via the royal family’s official Instagram account with the caption, “Wishing Princess Charlotte a very happy sixth birthday today.” As usual Charlotte’s mother the Duchess of Cambridge was the photographer behind the camera. We’ve had a few glimpses of Charlotte in recent months, like in the video montage of the Cambridge family that Prince William and Duchess Kate released to mark their tenth wedding anniversary this week. The video, filmed last fall, depicts Charlotte and her brothers Prince George and Prince Louisplaying in the windswept sand dunes of Norfolk’s coast, running through the grounds of their country home of Anmer Hall, and toasting marshmallows over a bonfire with their parents. When Charlotte’s great-grandfather Prince Philip died last month, a previously-unseen photo from 2018 was released of Philip and the queen with seven of their great-grandchildren. Charlotte is only 3 years old in the family snap, and wears the cutest pair of red Mary Janes. Charlotte’s full name is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge, and she was born on May 2, 2015. She is fourth in line to the British throne after her grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William, and older brother Prince George. She made history on the occasion of her birth, as she was the first female heir to the throne who would not have to move down the line of succession in favor of any male heir that might be born after her. This is thanks to the Perth Agreement, implemented in 2011, which granted sons and daughters of any future U.K. monarch equal right to the throne. If the succession laws had not been changed, Charlotte’s younger brother Louis would have taken precedence over her in the line of succession. Next up, here’s why the royal women—the Queen, Kate, and Camilla—wore colorless jewels to Prince Philip’s funeral.
