Given Solidcore’s country-wide growth, you may be wondering what makes it special; how does it compare to other Pilates classes and how quickly can you expect to notice results? Here, Triana Brown, Solidcore’s head of talent and product development and a NASM-certified fitness trainer, answers these questions and more, including what to expect from a class.

What Is Solidcore?

Just walking into a Solidcore studio, you’ll see right away that it’s different from a typical Pilates class. The lights are low, dimly lit by blue-tinted bulbs and the music is energizing, meant to power up the class. “Solidcore is a 50-minute, full-body, strength training workout,” Brown says, adding that each class is led by an experienced coach who offers personalized instruction and hands-on support. Brown says that, like traditional Pilates, Solidcore’s exercises are slow and controlled. But she says it’s their unique programming and machine that set it apart. “Utilizing its signature reformer and strategic programming, the principles of the workout are intended to maximize time under tension to build and enhance one’s strength,” she says. “Whether considered a person’s primary workout or a supplement to a regular training routine, Solidcore is designed to make clients stronger and more resilient, physically and mentally.”

What Are the Different Solidcore Classes?

There are several different Solidcore classes to choose from. Brown says that the studio’s signature class is a full-body workout. Other classes include arms and abs, buns and guns (focusing on glutes and arm toning), 30-minute express classes, foundations (geared toward first-time Solidcore class-goers) and super solids (an advanced class). “We want everyone to have the opportunity to come in and find the class that’s best for them, and these various formats provide for that,” Brown says.

What Is the Sweatlana Machine?

Sweatlana may sound like the name of a super intense personal trainer, but it’s actually the name of Solidcore’s reformer machine. “Our machine is intentionally designed to allow for a diversity of clients to come in and take class no matter what their body type or fitness level,” Brown says. She explains that it’s slightly wider than a standard reformer and there is also more variance with the springs. Brown says that this makes it more beneficial to a wider range of people, whether they are just starting their fitness journey or they are more advanced. More spring options mean everyone can feel challenged in the exact same class.

How To Prepare for a Solidcore Class and What To Expect

You don’t have to prepare too much before a Solidcore class. Brown says to wear something you don’t mind getting a little sweaty in. If it’s your first time, the coach teaching the class will walk you through how to use the Sweatlana machine. Then, it will be time to get to work. Even though it can be intimidating to try something new, don’t be nervous. “Everyone in the room once took their first class, and they will be there to lift you up and cheer you on,” Brown says. “Go for your second or third class! The more you take, the better you’ll adapt to the new environment. You’ll learn how to follow your coach’s instructions and effectively perform exercises. This will allow you to optimize your workout.” The price of the Solidcore classes varies by studio location. For example, in New York City, class-goers can choose from paying $154.66 a month for four classes a month ($37 a class), $292.60 for eight classes a month ($35 classes a month) or $364.70 a month for unlimited classes. In some other cities, class-goers can choose from paying $108 a month for four classes a month ($27 a class), $192 for eight classes a month ($24 a class), or $249 a month for unlimited classes. Other locations have slightly different prices than these.

When Can You Expect To See Results?

If you want to notice a physical difference from Solidcore, Brown recommends going about two times a week, consistently, although she says that some people choose to go three to four times a week. “With consistency, you will see and feel a change in your overall physical strength, as well as truly feel mentally stronger,” she says. Brown says that Solidcore is about overcoming both physical and mental discomfort. “The challenges you create for yourself in the studio can absolutely be applied outside the studio. We love that we provide that space for people to break down, overcome and achieve their strongest selves,” she says. Solidcore offers a way to tone your entire body through Pilates with its own unique twist. All fitness levels and body types can benefit, but it does take consistency to see results and the price point can make it inaccessible for some. But what’s clear is that its popularity isn’t slowing down. If there’s not a studio near you, chances are there will be soon.  Next up, find out what an “ideal” weekly workout plan looks like with this seven-day expert-backed guide.
